6.11 Teague Alexy with Jacob Mahon at 331 Club
Great show from Teague Alexy at the 331 Club, where he was joined by Jacob Mahon of Saltydog on electric guitar and a dude using drum brushes on a washboard to add to Teague's 'kitchen floor' stomp board style percussion. Teague added another layer of sound with harmonica.
We heard award winning tune "Good Clean High Off A Dirt Cheap Bottle Of Wine”, along with "Sidesteppin' Man", "Riding On A Ferris Wheel Wearing A Big Hat", Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank's "When We Were Smokin'", "Do Right By Me" and the brand new single, "Babylon Babblin'".
New song “Babylon Babblin’”with some dynamite harmonica from Teague:

6.13 Gemini Jam at Tuttle’s
Jimbo Hinkley’s Neil Young tribute act Forever Young took on the work of Gemini artists, including Bob Dylan, Prince, Paul McCartney, Derek Trucks, and others. With GR Svenddal on keys, Darren Christianson on drums, Ryan Staininger on guitar and Annie Hicks on vox for part of the evening.
6.15 Twine at Surly
A nice Sunday afternoon set as part of a Father’s Day celebration at the destination brewery. Surly has a lovely courtyard with a covered area for bands and lots of seating and open space. The set included:
Can't Always Get What You Want
Dark Timber
Lou and Luna
Can You Get To That
Rescue
Renewal
Forever Man
Sunshine of Your Love
6.20 Demitri Rallis and Will Effertz at Bear Cave Brewing
Hopkin’s Bear Cave Brewing has dozens of tap selections from seltzers to stouts, and regularly has music in the upstairs bar, where there are good acoustics and plenty of seating. Tonight’s performance was my first time on the upstairs outdoors patio, with room for a few dozen people and lots of sun. The former Rampant Roots bandmates plays some JJ Cale, a couple Widespread Panic numbers, and more!
6.21 Soul Rebels and St. Paul and the Minneapolis Funk All-Stars at Du Nord/Coliseum Building
The 8 piece funk and soul brass led Soul Rebels played on an afternoon that was hotter in Minneapolis than their native New Orleans and just as humid. Then St. Paul and the Minneapolis All-Stars took the stage and tore through a couple dozen or so Prince and Prince adjacent hits including “1999”, “Kiss”, “U Got The Look”, “DMSR” and Sheila E’s “The Glamorous Life” and “A Love Bizarre”.
The band consisted of St. Paul Peterson, keyboardist for the Time and singer of The Family, Jellybean Johnson of The TIme, and Dr. Fink, the keyboardist of The Revolution, and All-Stars. indeed!

6.26 Night Moves at Sociable Cider Werks
Night Moves are a Minneapolis based electro-dream pop quartet led by singer/guitarist/keyboardist John Pelant, who has such a fantastic voice. I really like this band’s sound, and their new song “Hold On To Tonight” really captures their vibey, spacey feel. They played a quick hour set for The Current’s happy hour series. The band does not make many local appearances but will be playing First Ave for an album release show 7.26.
6.27 The Big Wu at the MN Zoo
The Wild Nights music series is back this year and the Wu was back to play five years to the day after their last trip there. Other notable acts I’ve seen perform at this space were Bruce Hornsby and the Range, Dark Star Orchestra, and Gov’t Mule! A fun night of Wu classics like “Texas Fireball” and a smokin’ “Rocky Top” to end the night.
They ended with “Rocky Top” after “House of Wu”:
6.28 Mikaela Davis at Icehouse
Harpist Mikaela Davis opened for Circles Around The Sun at the Turf Club in spring of 2022, and this time she brought along their guitar player (who is also her bf), John Lee Shannon. It was a dynamite show, with a great band that included a guy playing both lap steel and pedal steel, which sounded great with the harp. She’d sat in with Goose the pervious weeknd at Mountain Jam in New York and has played with countless other artists including Phil Lesh.
Main set’s closing song was Neil Young’s “Down By The River”:

opener Lil Seabird:
6.29 Shotgun Ragtime Band at Driftwood
This week marked 14 years of Grateful Sundays! Wow, what an accomplishment. Great work Kevin, Mike C, Brian G, Jim, Phil, and thanks to the late Steve Fine for playing in the band. Many others have shared the stage over the last 730 Sundays and that’s one of the many wonderful things about this weekly happening. Dominic sat in on harmonica for a couple tunes.
Ryan, Jimbo and Kevin played the opening set:
